About Me: My name is Katie, as I am sure you all know by now. I am 21-years-old and I live in Olympia, WA. I was just recently married in July of 2007 to my best friend and the love of my life Tim. We have been together for 2 years now.
I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for us!!
Why cosmetology?: Becoming a Hair Stylist is something I have always wanted to pursue. My one desire was to find a career where I could be home with my kids (just like my mom) and make money to support my family. Cosmetology was all that and then some. It was all just a dream, but I am slowly seeing it come to life.
In fall of 2006 I was not sure where things were going in my life. I knew that I wanted to start my career in cosmetology. So I started looking at some schools and couldn’t seem to find what I was searching for. Finally, after a lot of research and internet surfing, I found The Salon Professional Academy of Tacoma, WA. A few weeks later I received a packet from TSPA in the mail. I looked through it and was very interested in what I saw. The salon was perfect! At first, it was too much money and we could afford for me to quit my job and go to school full-time. Things were pretty tight.
A few months went by and Tim and I decided to set up an interview with the school. We went and sat down with Karen Shea (one of the owners of TSPA) and talked about what our options were. Right when I walked in the school and met Karen I knew it was the one. Karen had such and outgoing personality and we had a great time discussing why I wanted to become a cosmetologist and what lead me to the school. After about an hour of fun and just talking about hair and makeup (you know how we ladies talk) we found the perfect solution and decided it was time for me to go back to school!! Karen gave us the tour and I was so excited that I couldn’t get rid of the BIG smile on my face. I just couldn’t believe I was on my way to starting my career in cosmetology!!
The TSPA experience: I have been attending The Salon Professional Academy for 6 months now. There is never a dull moment. You are always working on new things, you meet new people and become good friends with clients. It is so much more than just school it’s like a second home. Really. All the instructors are well trained and know exactly what you need when you ask for their expertise. They know that things can really get crazy so they are always there for you when you think you are about to lose it. It has been a wonderful chapter in my life and I can’t wait to put my skills to work in a salon someday soon.
Future: Like I said earlier, I have always wanted a career where I could stay at home with my family and make good money to support them. Although I don’t have children now, I plan for them in the future. Having a good start on my business before they arrive is a must. I plan to have a salon in my home, as well as, running a beauty supply. I am also looking at doing photography, makeup and maybe even working on the runway. It’s amazing the things Hair Stylists’ are doing now days...I want to perfect my talents and go far. The sky is the limit and I think with the support from my family, friends and YOU...I can make what was once a dream become reality."The future belongs to all who believe in the beauty of their dreams".
